Let's get physical.

OK, if this isn't one of the coolest LEGO creations ever, then I'm not a genocidal maniac wearing an eyepatch (and I am).

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, these are LEGO minifigs animated in real time by lckelpete, AKAPeter Salter.

These exercising figs are apparently powered by a single LEGO Power Functions motor.  This one gets five stars.

Duuuuuude!

We've seen some cool LEGO surfing waves before, but this picture just looks so joyous, and crisp, it jumped out at me.  Perfect posing of the Minifig by Darth Yoda.

One for the ladies...

Or rather, one full of ladies! This new Vintage Minifigure pack (vol. 5) includes four of the most memorable female 'figs, including the forestwoman, the female ninja, and tube top girl. "No CS minifigs" is the only thing running through my mind when I see this, but I guess you have to sacrifice some things for a full-female Vintage Minifigure Collection.

TLG assure us that the quality problems with the previous Collections, but that doesn't mean it won't be made in China. These things have to happen, guys. We'll just have to grin and bear it.

More Minifig Collection pics...

As we draw closer and closer to the minifig collection's release date, we inevitably get more and more pictures of those desirable minifigs. Now, FL from Flickr has found some close-ups of individual minifigs through Nori-Gallery on Brickshelf...

At the moment there's only pictures of the Robin Hood-like minifig:

FL correctly suggests that you should keep checking the Brickshelf gallery, as there's a folder there that hasn't been moderated yet. Who knows what it could contain?
And yet again, we have no idea of the quality of these minifigs. TLG have assured us that the 'crappy plastic made in China' problem was simply an issue with manufacturing... but will these minifigs be made of good ol' Danish ABS? We're yet to find out, but I certainly hope so.

Minifig Collection - Wave 2!

Remember the Minifigure Collection? The one that hasn't been released yet? Well, it seems that we now have images of the second wave, to be released in September this year. Talking about getting ahead of yourself!

Courtesy of Dano as always, this picture shows the first wave of minifigs on top of the podium whilst the second wave - including a mime, a Vamire, a pop singer and a Mexican - are standing around the base.

This second picture gives us a close-up of some of the second wave's figs. Most notably, the Roman centurion - TLG's way of politely saying 'up yours' to BrickForge. Then there's a remake of the Vampire 'fig, the perilously un-PC Mexican (plus maracas and poncho) and some guy with new skis. I seriously can't wait for these to be released...

REAL Collectable Minifigure pictures!

As the saying goes, pictures speak louder than words... and so I leave you with this first ever non-render picture of the collectable minifigures to be available in newsagents or somewhere-like-that this June.

Images courtesy of good ol' Dano courtesy of Pocket-Lint. See close ups of the minifigs:

Lego collectable minifigures?

Now this certainly is new for Lego. There have been reports of a new Lego collectible minifigure series, starting in June next year (found originally on the Swedish blog Legobloggen thru BrickSet thru Dano on Flickr). Here's the translated description of the blog's post:
"In June 2010, Lego will launch a new collectors series with only minifigs. The figures will be of various types, but is reportedly not being those from current themes. They could be anything from cowboys to ninjas or adventurers, etc. The first wave will appear in stores in June, reportedly contain 16 different characters. These will then be replaced by 16 other figures in August.

"Figures will be sold in opaque polybags, so it is chance that determines which figure you get. This is the same approach as in the example trading cards. The bag with the figure will cost 25 SEK (~£2 / £3.50). May seem much given to impulse setter costs only £5 more and then there is also the accessories. But I suspect that the high price is because the characters will be unique to this collector series and that they will only be produced in two months (at least the first wave)."  (thanks et314 for the news and translation)
Dano's got a picture of some Legoland stickers which may be pictures of the first sixteen:

There's a cavman, Ronald McDonald, a superhero, a zombie, a robot... oh, the endless possibilities! /faints

Tabletown 2010 Calendar now available for download.

I hope Brickspace readers will allow me a small indulgence. Every year for the past few years I have created a new LEGO-themed calendar available for free download and I am pleased to announce that the 2010 Tabletown Wall Calendar is finally here!

You can download it completely free of charge from here.

This year’s theme is “Calendar Minifigs” – based of course on the true story of the real Calendar Girls, ladies who bared (nearly) all in the name of charity.

The calendar is intended to be printed and so the pages appear sideways on the screen, but you can get a full preview of the images in my Flickrstream here.

As with all my calendars, this is a completely free, not-for-profit publication and no copyright infringement is intended. If you enjoy this calendar, I would strongly urge you to make a donation to the charity supported by the REAL “Calendar Girls”.

Harle Q. - The Immediate

I don't normally post custom minifigs ob brickspace but this custom 'Harle Q' by Brickspace's very own Newright really caught my eye. The black background and the lighting give it a dark feel and it's just generally really good.

International SteamPunk Day?

Feeling lucky, Steampunk?, originally uploaded by Sir Nadroj.
I had no idea until Jordan Schwartz (Sir Naroj) pointed out to me that today was International SteamPunk day. All members of the interweb need to gather to celebrate this wonderful 'lifestyle' for some people, but to most of use it is just a Sub theme built with LEGO.

Welcome Home!

Welcome Home!, originally uploaded by Monkfish44.
This little scene by Monkfish44 is great. It also has some great cinematography that looks a little like the window technique originally used by Alex Eylar. Anyway the story Monk tries to tell us starts off like...

Mini-Monk: "Oooh, nice. Just one thing..."

Me: "What?"

Mini-Monk: "The t-shirt. Why did you put me in this t-shirt?"

Me: "We're promoting the green cause!"

Mini-Monk: "I'm made of plastic."

Me: "..."

Mini-Monk: "I'm going inside."

Minifig Stands.

I thought Brickspace readers might like to read my thoughts on the new Minifig Stands - so this is a repeat of an entry from my own personal Blog over at Tabletown.

According to the UK distributor, I'm the first person in the country (aside from him) to get my hands on a set of these. Dunno if that's correct, but there you go. Produced by Minifig World, available from Minifig For Life in the UK and featured on The Brothers Brick.

Here's the packaging.

Ten of these for £6.00. Here's the top and bottom.

As you can see, they do stack.

The packet suggests that with these stands you can get your Minifigs to:
1) Stand on one leg. Check.
2) Bend over. Check.
3) Hold items. Check - although as you will see with this alien meteorite held by the middle Doctor Sinister clone, he has to bend backwards or the whole lot tips over, stand and all. But then I did choose a deliberately ridiculous item to hold.

I think these will be really handy for display purposes, but what would be even handier would be if they were transparent and/or thinner with perhaps a single stud so they could be posed in a diorama unobtrusively. Now THAT would be handy!

New Vintage Minifigure Collection Announced!

VMC III!, originally uploaded by L.D.M..
The third and in my opinion the best Vintage Minifigure Collection yet. We see yet another Yellow Spaceman, a BLACK FALCON!, and Imperial Soldier with and unprinted shako, a basic chef, and an old favorite in my opinion, the western general. This is definitely a must buy on my list.

Cyclops has Arrived!

Space Police fun!, originally uploaded by Legohaulic.
Or at least in Tyler Clites (Legohaulic) mind is has where he used elements from some of the new space police sets to design some fantastic minifigure.

In other new Space Police sets are now available at TRUs across the United States. I know I will be checking mine ASAP.

Space Pirate Customs

BrickSpace coverage of the just ended contest over in the Space-Pirate Group on Flickr. A fantastic round-up of entries into this contest.

This entry by 'Nickre on Flickr wonderfully uses a technique originally used by Michael Jasper in a new way and has fantastic use of rubber bands.

This entry by 'Ricky features a great idea for a flame thrower and just holds you in with some sort of style.

Most likely one of my favorite entries (other than my own of course) is the pirate designed by Tadashistate who executes pirate and space beautifully together.

And now taking a short opportunity to blog myself I present my figure for the contest.

Thanks,
Zack

ArzLan's Droideka

Flickr member ArzLan builds one of the most fantastic Droideka's around. An entry into K.A.M. Forums contest. I hold high hopes for this fantastic entry.

The zone where normal things don't go

Apart from the lengthy title, this 1980's entry to the gominimango contest on flickr (Which you can go to by clicking here). The main thing I like about it though, is the excellent lighting, plain background and camera angle. The three things I look for before even thinking about posting a creation on Brickspace. It was created by Adrian Florea and you can go to his photostream by clicking here.

Stop, Drop and Roll

The idea of having lego people in the real world has been around for a long time, but it hasn't ever been done as well as this. Admittedly it lacks a story, and the minifigures are a bit twitchy but it's a funny concept. You can find it on YouTube by clicking here.

Gears of war concept

These Gears of War characters, KALISO, Marcus Fenix & Carmine, were designed by "Hazel", I love his custom weapons and hairstyles, and you can find the picture and more information on it by clicking here.

30 years of the minifigure

Apart from the utterly utterly utterly stupid super super widescreen, this video is icredible. It's sooo smooth, and the plot is great. I like the camera angles, the lighting and the set. What's not to like (Other than the stupid super super widescreen!!!). Another amazing video from Nathan Wells, one last comment though: I thought the brick was just 30 years old? Well, there's me prooved wrong then! It was created by Nathan Wells and you can see the video on YouTube by clicking here, or you can view Nathan Wells' channel (One brick studio's) by clicking here.
